My Volunteer Experience at Mozilla Festival 2013

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to work with the finest at Mozilla Foundation "Mozilla Festival".   One of the greatest strengths at Mozilla Festival known as "MozFest" were the volunteers, who worked countless hours on making sure the event went smoothly.  I was amongst the volunteers at the 2013 Mozilla Festival in London this past weekend.  I was so honored and excited to be part of such a great success at MozFest.  I decided back in the summer of 2013 to volunteer at this mega event, because I felted, it would be important to Mozilla.  I want to thank Michelle, Amira and Spike for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this momentum at Mozilla.   As a Mozilla Rep, it’s one of our duties to represent Mozilla in the community such as conferences and other venues.  I attended the Mozilla Festival Volunteer meet up and briefing a week prior.  The meeting consisted of getting to know all of the volunteers and a brief description on volunteer roles.   You can view below a live recorded clip of the Volunteer Briefing via Air Mozilla:

As the journey started at MozFest ,  I reported to duty on Wednesday, few days before the festival would official begin.  I met so many nice and warming local Mozilla staff members from the London Office, especially, Paula, William (FuzzyFox) and Shannon.   They were the most accommodating among them all, their compassion was just amazing.   We had the opportunity to tour Ravensbourne, where the event will take place.  After the tour, I was really hoping to reinvent my own “magic carpet”, due the mega size of the facilities .  The college has 9  Floor/Levels and lots of stairs, meaning our weekend will consist of walking and walking.

Our next task on the list at Mozfest, "Media Relations", we had to get ready for the live press conference with local Media regarding the Mozilla Festival.  Wow, what a great experience and I felted privilege to be around to participate.

Now, the big day has come and it was time to get the show on the road.   Off we head to Ravensbourne, where we will start setting up 9 levels of innovation and new web ideas.  It was a quite adventurous weekend, even though; I did many behind the scenes work.  I witnessed so many exploring, creative and innovative things at the Festival.  I really enjoyed the different conversations; I had with many of the participants at the MozFest.    As, we move forward to better position ourselves with the openness of the web.  I look forward to many more of these types of events to come. Thank you, Mozilla!

Mozilla Summit 2013

Traveling to Toronto this past weekend was so epic and amazing.  I had the opportunity to meet so many awesome mozillians from across the globe.   Even though, it was my first summit, I was amazed on the positive energy among the participants.  I learned a lot about the Firefox OS phone, which it recently launched earlier of 2013. I attended a session with the Mozilla Rep, which helped explained the program in details and provided future guidance.  I appreciate the opportunity that was given to me at the summit and hope I can do it again in the near future.
